Pakistan says all borders with Iran ‘fully operational’

KARACHI, Pakistan

Pakistan on Wednesday said all of its border crossings with Iran remain "fully operational" despite the latter's escalating war with Israel.

"This is to clarify that, contrary to some media reports, all border crossings along the Pakistan-Iran border remain fully operational," Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said in a statement, without further elaborating.

Previously, Pakistan on Sunday announced that it had closed its borders with neighboring Iran.

Shahid Rind, a spokesman for the government of southwestern Balochistan province, which borders Iran, confirmed to Anadolu on Monday that Pakistan had shut all the border crossings with the Islamic republic for all kinds of activities.

There are several land routes connecting Pakistan with Iran, with the most prominent being the Taftan border crossing in Chaghi district and the Gabd-Rimdan border in the Gwadar district of Balochistan.

Over 400 Pakistani students and pilgrims have so far returned via the Taftan border, with thousands of others likely to follow suit in the coming days.
