No respite for Eurasia as virus cases, deaths mount

KIEV

Several Eurasian and Central Asian countries reported new coronavirus cases and fatalities on Friday.

Ukraine

Ukraine registered 3,144 new virus cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the tally to 148,756, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said.

The death toll rose to 3,076 as 53 more people died of the virus. Most recently, 1,128 people recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 67,005.

Over 50,000 tests were conducted over the past day and a total of 78,675 are still under treatment.

The quarantine regime in the country was extended until Nov. 1.

Georgia

Georgia’s Prime Ministry said in a statement that there were a total of 1,958 cases in the country, with 87 additions over the past day.

The number of recoveries reached 1,334 as 20 more patients recovered over the past 24 hours. The death toll in the country stood at 19.

Uzbekistan

In a statement, the Health Ministry in Uzbekistan said that 454 more people contracted the virus and the total number of cases climbed to 45,927, while the total number of fatalities rose to 375 with five new deaths.

The official data showed that another 46 people recovered from the disease, bringing the count to 42,555, which approximately translates to 93% recovery rate.

Nearly 3,000 people are going through medical treatment in the country where some 100,000 people are currently monitored for the infection.

Armenia

According to the Armenian Health Ministry, 177 more people were diagnosed with the disease, pushing the tally to 45,503.

The virus claimed three more life in the country, raising the death toll to 909. So far, 41,434 people have recovered from the virus, while 2,880 people are currently being treated.

Kazakhstan

The Health Ministry in Kazakhstan confirmed that the total number of cases rose to 106,661, with 77 additions over the past 24 hours.

With the recovery of 161 patients, the total number of recoveries reached 100,409. The death toll rose to 1,656 as five more people died from the disease.

Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan confirmed that 77 people were diagnosed with the virus over the past day and the registered cases totaled 44,761.

The Health Ministry said a total of 40,631 people have recovered from COVID-19, while no one died from the virus over the past day.

Over 2,600 people are receiving treatment and a total of 1,061 people have lost their lives to the coronavirus in the country.

The virus has claimed more than 910,100 lives in 188 countries and regions since it broke out in China in December. The US, Brazil and India are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 28.2 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries surpassing 19.02 million, according to figures compiled by the US’ Johns Hopkins University.
