India’s prime minister expresses ’deep concern’ about Mideast tensions in call with Iranian president
‘Need for unhindered transit of goods and energy, remain India’s top priorities,’ Narendra Modi tells Masoud Pezeshkian
NEW DELHI
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed “deep concern” Thursday about Middle East tensions in a call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Modi wrote on the US social media company X that he discussed the serious situation in the region.
“Expressed deep concern over the escalation of tensions and the loss of civilian lives as well as damage to civilian infrastructure," wrote Modi.
He said the safety and security of Indian nationals, along with the “need for unhindered transit of goods and energy, remain India’s top priorities.”
“Reiterated India’s commitment to peace and stability and urged for dialogue and diplomacy,” he added.
Regional tensions have escalated since Feb. 28, when the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran that has killed more than 1,300 victims, including former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries that are home to US military assets.
