India on Friday expressed concerns at the “deteriorating security situation” amid Israeli attacks on the headquarters of UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon.
“We are concerned at the deteriorating security situation along the Blue Line. We continue to monitor the situation closely,” said a Foreign Ministry statement, referring to the de facto border between Israel and Lebanon.
The ministry added: “Inviolability of UN premises must be respected by all and appropriate measures taken to ensure the safety of UN peacekeepers and the sanctity of their mandate.”
Israeli forces early Friday fired at an observation post belonging to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) at their headquarters in Naqoura, southern Lebanon, wounding two peacekeepers from the Sri Lankan contingent, Lebanon’s state National News Agency said
Two peacekeepers were injured in a similar attack on Thursday.
The strikes came as Israel is continuing its weeks-long campaign of air and ground attacks in Lebanon, while also carrying out strikes in Gaza.
