China's death toll from heavy rain, floods climbs to 12

ANKARA

The death toll from a flash flood in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region rose to 12, after the body of another missing person was found by rescuers, the state-run media reported Friday.

The disaster hit the upstream area of a river in Urad Rear Banner of Bayannur City last week, leaving 13 campers missing and four vehicles washed away, according to Xinhua News.

Earlier this month, at least 22 people were killed and over two dozen went missing due to heavy rains and floods in the Gansu province, northwestern China.

Late last month, at least 30 people were killed in the capital Beijing, after heavy rainfall pounded the city, causing widespread flooding, infrastructure damage, and mass evacuations.
