China says 'willing to create ample space for peaceful reunification' with Taiwan
State Council Taiwan Affairs Office warns Beijing will never renounce use of force, reserves options to take all necessary measures

ANKARA
China on Wednesday said Beijing is "willing" to create ample space for peaceful reunification with Taiwan.
State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokeswoman Zhu Fenglian expressed hope that the majority of Taiwanese people will join the mainland in resisting the ruling Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) authorities, according to state-run Global Times.
However, she warned Beijing "will never renounce the use of force and reserves the option to take all necessary measures."
China considers Taiwan to be its "breakaway province," while Taipei has insisted on its independence since 1949.
On the Chinese fight against Japan until World War II, Zhu said the DPP's denial of the Communist Party's role in the War of Resistance was a "grave desecration of all heroic martyrs and a shameless betrayal of the entire Chinese nation."
Zhu also addressed Taiwan's move to increase its defense budget next year.
Such actions "drag the people of Taiwan onto the secessionist war chariot, which poses the greatest threat to their safety and interests," said Zhu, warning against military contacts between Taiwan and the US.
"We firmly oppose any form of military contact between the US and China’s Taiwan region," she said while reacting to the participation of over 500 Taiwanese military personnel in this year's US Northern Strike drills.
