China opposes US banning import, sale of foreign-made drones
US prohibits uncrewed aircraft systems, critical components produced in foreign countries, due to 'unacceptable risks to the national security of the United States and to the safety and security of US persons'
ISTANBUL
China on Tuesday expressed opposition to the US banning the import or sale of foreign-made drones.
A new rule by the US Federal Communications Commission prohibits uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) and UAS critical components produced in foreign countries, due to them posing "unacceptable risks to the national security of the United States and to the safety and security of U.S. persons," said a statement.
China's DJI is the world's largest consumer drone maker.
Beijing urges Washington to rescind the measure, said a spokesperson of China’s Commerce Ministry, according to a statement.
If the US continues to take "unilateral" actions, China will "resolutely take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises," the spokesperson added.
