Six people were killed and two others injured in a blast at an explosives manufacturing plant in southern Russia, local emergency services said on Friday.

According to preliminary information, the blast occurred at the Promsintez plant in the Samara region during welding work while workers were dismantling a pipeline that may have contained traces of explosives.

The Promsintez plant, located in the city of Chapayevsk and some 800 kilometers (500 miles) southeast of Moscow, is one of the main manufacturers of industrial explosives in Russia.
