5 killed in explosion at wedding ceremony in northwest Pakistan
Blast targets house of pro-government peace militia leader in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province
KARACHI, Pakistan
At least five people were killed in an explosion at a wedding ceremony in northwestern Pakistan on Friday evening, police and local media reported.
The explosion targeted the house of Noor Alam Mehsud, a pro-government "peace militia" leader in the Dera Ismail Khan district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, when a wedding ceremony was underway there, local broadcaster Geo News reported.
Several people were also injured in the explosion.
Police said they were ascertaining the nature of the blast; however, initial investigation suggests it was a suicide bombing.
