Ten soldiers were killed and 15 others wounded in a bomb attack targeting a military base in southern Yemen early on Friday.
A bomb laden car detonated in the southern province of Abyan Governorate, military sources said.
After the blast, gunmen, reportedly members of Al-Qaeda, staged rocket attacks on the base.
Meanwhile, Yemeni army took the control of a police station back from al-Qaeda militants on Thursday.
In recent months, there has been an increase in the number of attacks and assassinations targeting security forces.
Officials put the blame on Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
The militant group has emerged again as the most dangerous al-Qaeda affiliate, strengthening amid political unrest in Yemen in recent months.
