Ankara and Washington were announced as sister cities on Sunday during the Washington DC Turkish Festival.
Washington DC Turkish American Association (ATA-DC) organized the Ninth Washington DC Turkish Festival over the weekend.
Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Melih Gokcek and Washington DC Mayor Vincent Gray were honorary guests of this year's festival.
During the festival, Gokcek and Gray announced Ankara and Washington DC as sister cities.
Tens of thousands of people had the opportunity to taste Turkish food and traditional Turkish coffee, walk around an open Turkish market and shop from this market.
Also, Turkish culture and handicrafts were promoted during the festival.
