Venezuela’s interim president meets US interior secretary to discuss mining cooperation
Delcy Rodriguez says talks with Doug Burgum in Caracas focused on investment flows and new technologies
ISTANBUL
Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodriguez said Thursday that she held a “fruitful” meeting with US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum in Caracas to discuss cooperation in the mining sector, including investment flows and new technologies.
Burgum’s visit comes as both sides discuss opportunities for cooperation and investment in Venezuela’s mineral sector.
The two sides reviewed Venezuela’s mining agenda and exchanged views on investment and technological cooperation, Rodriguez said in a statement posted on US social media company X.
“We held a fruitful meeting with US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum. We reviewed our mining agenda, exchanged information on investment flows and new technologies, and highlighted the promotion of strategic opportunities for the benefit of our people,” she wrote.
“This meeting reflects Venezuela’s willingness to strengthen international relations to promote national development and the social well-being of all Venezuelans,” she added.
The meeting came shortly before the United States and Venezuela’s interim authorities agreed to re-establish diplomatic and consular relations, a move Washington said would help promote stability, support economic recovery and advance political reconciliation in the country.
