Major indexes in the US stocks market opened Monday with losses to start the new week on a lower note as volatility has climbed.

The Dow Jones was down 18 points to 34,363 at 9.35 a.m. EDT (1335GMT) with Walt Disney falling 1.5%.

The S&P 500 decreased 8 points to 4,165 with Tesla shedding 1%, while the Nasdaq fell 45, or 0.3%, to 13,385 as Airbnb slid 3.4%.

The VIX volatility index was up again by climbing 9.6% to 20.61. The yield on 10-year US Treasury bonds was also up 0.3% to 1.64%.

Bitcoin saw its price plummet to $42,320 in the early hours after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said last week the electric carmaker will not be accepting Bitcoin from customers for the purchase of its vehicles.

Price later recovered to $44,650 around US market opening as Musk said late Sunday Tesla has not yet sold Bitcoin its holds. However, while the world's largest cryptocurrency was down around 9% for the day, some altcoins saw as high as a 25% daily loss.
