US stock market opens higher
Twitter shares up 1.2 percent, Boeing shares gain 0.6 percent

NEW YORK
The stock market opened higher on Thursday with gains in the stock prices of some major American firms.
The Dow added 17 points to begin trading at 20,992, while the S&P 500 rose 1 point to 2,388.
The Nasdaq was up 11 points to start trading at 6,036.
Airplane manufacturer and defense giant Boeing's stock price rose 0.6 percent on Thursday, a day after the company saw its first quarter net income jump 18.8 percent year-over-year.
Twitter shares rose 1.2 percent on Thursday, after the previous day's announcement that its number of monthly active users was up 5.8 percent in the first quarter of the year to reach 328 million.
