US industrial production rose 0.2% on a monthly basis in November, according to Federal Reserve data released on Tuesday.

The figure followed a 0.1% decrease in October. October data was not released on time due to the federal government shutdown.

Meanwhile, manufacturing output remained unchanged in November after falling 0.4% in October.

"There were swings in both mining and utilities output over October and November, though, on net, both sectors posted gains," the Fed said in a statement.

Capacity utilization, which reflects overall growth and demand in the economy, ticked up to 76%, above market expectations.

On an annual basis, industrial output rose 2.5% in November.
