TUNIS, Tunisia

Tunisian security authorities on Friday announced the arrest of two people who were convicted of being affiliated with a terrorist group.

The Tunisian National Guard said in a statement that its security units in the northwestern Siliana province arrested two persons wanted on charges of terrorist group affiliation.

The statement did not give their names but said both had been sentenced for up to three years.

Since May 2011, Tunisia has witnessed several terrorist attacks that escalated in 2013, killing dozens of security and military personnel and foreign tourists.

Among the active terrorist groups in Tunisia is a Daesh/ISIS-affiliated terrorist group known as Jund al-Khilafa.
