The Moroccan embassy here celebrated its National Day, known as Throne Day, on Monday with a number of dignitaries and officials in attendance.

Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy was present along with other Turkish officials and Arab and foreign diplomats.

“We celebrate today the 19th anniversary of the reign of King Mohammed VI,” said Moroccan charge d’ affaires in Ankara Said Ait al-Talib Ali.

Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy tweeted a message of continued friendship between the two nations.

“We celebrated the national day of our friend and brother country Morocco. By the joint will of our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the King of Morocco Mohammad VI, I believe that the historical and deep-rooted relations between the two countries will improve more,” he said.

Mohammed VI ascended to power in 1999, proceeding his father King Hassan II.

Since that time, Mohammed VI has led social, democratic and economic reforms in the Moroccan Kingdom.

Turkey and Morocco are strongly bound together by deeply rooted historical and brotherly ties and share common traditions.

According to Turkey’s Foreign Ministry, diplomatic relations between Turkey and Morocco were established April 17, 1956, by a joint declaration of the governments of both countries, following Morocco’s independence.

Turkey considers Morocco an important country in the Mediterranean region and North Africa.
