ISTANBUL

Malian forces "neutralized" around a dozen terrorists Sunday during an operation between Bambara-Maoude and Inadjatafane in the Douentza region, the army said in a statement.

The statement did not identify the groups targeted.

“No effort will be spared by the FAMa to ensure the protection and free movement of people and their property,” the army said, referring to the Malian Armed Forces by its French acronym.

Mali has faced persistent insecurity for more than a decade, particularly in its central and northern regions, where armed groups linked to militant organizations and local conflicts have carried out attacks against security forces and civilians.

The army regularly announces counterterrorism operations as it seeks to reassert control over territory and curb the activities of armed groups, especially in areas near key population centers and along the Niger River corridor.
