Ghana's president has been re-elected as the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Monday.

The 59th meeting of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS was held in Ghana's capital Accra, where leaders agreed that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should remain chairman of ECOWAS for another year to continue the regional bloc's institutional reform process.

Akufo-Addo was first elected as chair of the 57th ECOWAS meeting of heads of state and government held in Niamey, Niger's capital, in September 2020.

ECOWAS was headed for two terms by Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou.
