Coronavirus claims 22 lives in Tunisia, 13 in Libya

ANKARA

Local health authorities in Libya and Tunisia confirmed additional fatalities and infections from the coronavirus outbreak on Monday.

In a statement, Libya’s National Center for Disease Control said 13 people had died from COVID-19, while 1,109 people tested positive over the past 24 hours.

The country’s tally now soared to 43,821 confirmed cases, including 644 deaths, and 24,466 recoveries.

Tunisia also recorded 22 deaths and 2,312 new cases in the past day, according to the Health Ministry.

The North African country’s figure now rose to 32,556 infections, including 478 fatalities.

Worldwide, the virus has claimed more than 1.07 million lives in 188 countries and regions since first emerging in Wuhan, China in December.

The US, India, Brazil and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries.

Over 37.57 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries surpassing 26.1 million, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
