Kenya police said Wednesday a suspected al-Shabaab attack killed four people in the north and injured others.

Police said a vehicle hit an improvised explosive roadside bomb planted by suspected terrorists that killed three Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) engineers who were on a routine road evaluation.

The vehicle was part of a convoy that turned back after the Toyota Hilux Double Cabin vehicle was destroyed, said police.

“The other vehicles turned back to Hailey Chinese camp,” according to a statement.

North Eastern police boss George Seda said the attackers fled and police have been sent to the area to pursue and boost security for residents.

The same locality in Garissa County was the target of a similar attack that killed two police officers and a civilian in December.

That attack was attributed to al-Shabaab terrorists who entered Kenya through the porous border with Somalia to carry out attacks.
