WASHINGTON
US President Barack Obama held a phone call with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe over the nuclear test of North Korea.
According to a statement released from the White House that, President Obama discussed the nuclear test of North Korea and to respond to the highly provocative violation of North Korea's international obligations.
The statement covered, Obama and Abe agreed to work closely to seek significant action at the United Nations Security Council and to cooperate on measures aimed at impeding North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
In the phone call, Obama stated, "reaffirmed that the US remains steadfast in its defense commitments to Japan, including the extended deterrence offered by the U.S. nuclear umbrella", according to the statement.
Furthermore, US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta referred to the acts of North Korea and stressed, they represent a serious threat for the US.
