WASHINGTON D.C.
Neither the U.K. nor the U.S. believe Russia has progressed in easing tensions in Ukraine, according to a White House statement.
U.S. President Barack Obama and U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron spoke about foreign policy issues including the crises in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iraq, and nuclear talks with Iran in a phone-call on Sunday.
"The President and Prime Minister agreed Europe and the United States should take further coordinated measures to impose costs on Russia if it does not take immediate steps toward de-escalation," said in the statement.
The U.S. and EU had requested Russia enforce a bilateral ceasefire, stop the flow of Russian weapons and fighters to pro-Russian separatist groups in eastern Ukraine, create a roadmap for negotiations, and ensure the release of all hostages.
They also welcomed the brokering of a deal to resolve the disputed Afghan election results. The deal mediated by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry involves an internationally supervised vote re-count.
