ADANA (AA) - Dr. Ayman Abulaban, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) representative to Turkey, has said more than half of Syrian people suffered from the civil war in Syria and expected the numbers to rise by the end of the year.
Abulaban told Anadolu Agency that children made up the most vulnerable group among the Syrians residing at the facilities in Turkey.
Stating that Syrian children met the cold face of war at an early age despite their peers, Abulaban emphasized their mutual efforts with Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) to protect children and their rights worldwide.
Stating that Turkey accomodated 200 thousand people in the facilities and provided services for the 300 thousand living in the country, he said Turkey had put in great effort and embraced Syrians.
"More than half of Syrian people suffer from the civil war in Syria and the numbers are expected to rise by the end of the year. Therefore, the international society must gather as soon as possible and work on how to end the civil war in the country. The states in the region carry the burden of the crisis and Turkey is among them," Abulaban noted.
Stating that they were determined to continue their works in health and education of children, Abulaban said, "We are planning to build more than six prefabricated schools in Turkey. We also support teachers working voluntarily in their own facilities. We try to connect with children via various sports and other activities. We also provide services for orphans."
Touching on the funding of the projects, he reminded UN's international call for aid, adding that only 25 percent of the funds were collected.
