Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday strongly condemned the armed attacks on several towns in the Central African Republic perpetrated by the coalition of rebel groups “SELEKA”.
A statement by his spokesperson's office said that these developments gravely undermined the peace agreements in place and the secretary-general deeply regretted the loss of life and population displacement caused by the fighting.
Ban also appealed to all parties to refrain from any acts of violence against civilians, including sexual and gender-based violence and called on all parties to ensure the protection of civilians and to respect human rights, it said.
