UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that they must do everything they could to reach Syrians in need.
"We must intensify our efforts to end the violence through diplomacy, overcoming the divisions within Syria, the region and the Security Council," he stated at a press conference on UN priorities at the General Assembly on Tuesday.
Ban said the crisis in Syria, which began in early 2011, has led to the deaths of more than 60,000 people, left four million people in the country in need of assistance, half of whom have been displaced internally. He went on saying that in addition, there were 650,000 displaced people in neighbouring countries, in North Africa and in Europe.
In regard to Mali, Ban said that other large-scale displacements were taking place in the Africa's Sahel region and Mali.
"Working with African and international partners, we must do our part to help fully restore Mali's constitutional order and territorial integrity," he said.
