GAZA CITY, Palestine
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, or UNRWA, closed Thursday its five emergency shelters that were built after the ceasefire on August 26, an UNRWA spokesperson said.
The UNRWA spokesperson, Adnan Abu Hasna, spoke to Anadolu Agency and announced that it has closed five emergency shelters.
Abu Hasna said that former residents of the closed emergency shelters were settled to houses for four months, a move paid for by the agency, to grant them time to find permanent residences.
UNRWA has 74 shelters and 18 collective centers where it hosts the remaining 60,000 IDPs, according to the UN's website.
Israel's latest offensive against the Gaza Strip left thousands of Palestinian homes and public facilities either in total or partial ruin.
The offensive, which was launched for 51 days between July and August 2014, also left 2,160 Gazans dead - mostly civilians - and more than 11,000 others injured.
