DONETSK, Ukraine
Ukrainian troops on Friday recaptured Nikolaevka town, located in eastern Donetsk, as part of an anti-terror operation launched against pro-Russian separatists.
Ukraine's Unian news agency quoted Dmitry Tymchuk, chairman of Kiev-based Center of Military-Political Research claiming the army fully cleared the rebels from the town in Donetsk.
Tymchuk also said the army bombed six key points controlled by separatists and their ammunition depot, killing at least 150 separatists and two soldiers are also reported dead.
The army used heavy weapons in its operations in Luhansk city with separatists retaliating with tanks against the shelling in the city, said Ukraine's local media outlets.
Ukraine launched an anti-terror operation in mid-April to restore government control over the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.
Tension continues to remain high in Ukraine after pro-Russian separatists in the eastern part declared their intention to break away from Kiev in March.
