KIEV, Ukraine
Ukraine suspended bus services to Russia’s annexed Crimean Peninsula because of alleged security concerns Friday, Ukrainian government officials said.
Ukraine's Infrastructure Ministry had ordered bus companies to stop their service. Earlier in the day, Ukraine's state rail company had also decided to suspend its service to Crimea.
Russia annexed the Crimean peninsula in March, after a controversial referendum.
Since the fall of the Soviet Union, the Russian Federation has continued to maintain a naval base in the Crimean port of Sevastopol, which is currently home to Russia's Black Sea fleet.
