Violence-hit Ukraine is discussing a constitutional amendment package which will regulate presidential power, judicial independence and government-parliament relations.
Observers have been watching developments in the Ukrainian parliament since recently-appointed President Petro Poroshenko revealed that a peace plan focusing on reforms and ending conflict with pro-Russian separatists in the East would be implemented this week.
Ukraine's parliament speaker, Alexander Turchynov, also announced that the discussion on constitutional reforms could also begin this week.
It is expected that the constitutional draft will grant a partial amnesty to east Ukraine separatists.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, a professor at the National University of Kiev, Igor Koliushko, said that a concrete constitutional draft has not been formed yet.
Koliushko said that a commission was been formed in parliament at the beginning of March but had failed to reach a concrete outcome.
“It will be seen in the draft which the president will send next week that what kind of changes the constitution reforms will bring,” Igor said.
Poroshenko convened a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council in Kiev late on Monday to discuss putting a peace plan in place once the border with Russia has been secured.
Tensions remain high in eastern Ukraine where pro-Moscow separatists and government forces continue to clash after Poroshenko vowed "to ensure peace and stability" by retaining control of the eastern regions.
