A woman whose baby girl was discovered dead in a rubbish bin in the U.K. county of North Yorkshire has been found, police have said.
North Yorkshire police disclosed on Thursday that the mother had been traced and was receiving medical treatment three days after a member of the public found the baby's corpse in a "wheelie bin" in a communal waste area in Whitcliffe Grange, Richmond.
Inspector Mark Gee of North Yorkshire Police said: "We thank the local community and the media for their continued support and sensitivity regarding this tragic case ... please avoid any unhelpful or harmful speculation on social networking sites."
The baby was pronounced dead after paramedics were called to the site on Monday but were unable to revive it.
Police then launched an appeal to locate the mother.
Preliminary findings from a post mortem examination suggest that the baby was stillborn, North Yorkshire Police posted on Facebook.
The remains of the baby were taken to a mortuary at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
