CAIRO (AA) – Two separate attacks targeting a security post and military personnel in Egypt's restive Sinai Peninsula left no casualties, a security source said Wednesday.
Unidentified assailants detonated an explosive device near an abandoned security post in the border town of Rafah, the source said, noting that the blast had caused limited damage to the facility.
On the same day, a group of unidentified gunmen driving a 4x4 vehicle opened fire on a personnel carrier and an armored military vehicle on the road linking the North Sinai villages of Arish and Sheikh Zuweid, the source said, adding that no injuries had been reported.
No groups or individuals have claimed responsibility for the attacks.
Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, which shares borders with both Israel and the Gaza Strip, has seen almost daily attacks by unknown gunmen since the July 3 ouster of elected president Mohamed Morsi by the country's powerful military establishment.
The Egyptian army is currently carrying out what military experts are calling the largest military operation on the peninsula since Egypt's 1973 war with Israel with the stated aim of combating "militancy and terrorism."
