WASHINGTON
Turkey's ambassador in Washington has said his country would not let the civil war in Syria last forever.
"There might be circles who want the tragedy to go on for decades but Turkey will certainly not allow such a situation," Namik Tan told a conference on Turkey at Radvanyi International Security Studies Chair in the Mississippi State University.
Tan said Turkey had maintained a coherent policy on the Middle East, adding that his country stressed democratic principles, basic rights and freedoms, rule of law, transparency and accountability in its vision over the region.
Tan said Turkey could not remain indifferent to the human sufferings in Syria, adding that all potential scenarios should be explored to secure that the legitimate demands of the Syrian people were met.
