ANKARA
Turkey condemned Monday a deadly suicide attack in Afghanistan's southeastern Paktika province that killed 55 people during a volleyball match.
The attack took place Sunday.
"We are in deep sorrow that at least 55 people were killed and 85 others were injured during the suicide attack," the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said the attack was aimed at disrupting Afghanistan's peace and stability.
"We believe these kinds of malicious attacks cannot affect Afghan people's choice of democracy and Turkey will support Afghanistan's democratization process," the statement added.
Paktika, a province that borders Pakistan, is known as a stronghold of militant networks, where several deadly attacks have taken place.
Last July, a suicide car bomb in the province killed 89 people and injured 42 others.
