LEFKOSA, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
The newly formed coalition government in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus won a vote of confidence in parliament on Wednesday.
Anadolu Agency’s correspondent in Lefkosa reported that the vote of confidence was held in the Turkish Cypriot parliament for the coalition government of the National Unity Party (UBP) and Democratic Party-National Forces (DP-UG) alliance.
Turkish Cypriot President Mustafa Akinci approved the new coalition government cabinet under Prime Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun earlier this month.
In early April, Akinci assigned Ozgurgun to form the government.
In parliament, the Republican Turkish Party-United Forces (CTP-BG) has 20 seats, the UBP has 18, the DP-UG has 5, and the Communal Democracy Party (TDP) has 3. Additionally, there are four independent deputies.
Amid the change in government, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is in talks with the Greek Cypriot administration over a possible reunification agreement this year.
