856 civilians and 2,054 police officers were killed in attacks by the Taliban in Afghanistan over the last 8 months, according to General Muhammad Salim Ehsas, a former provincial police commander.
The death toll results from the 6,604 attacks, 50 of which were suicide attacks and the remainder bomb attacks and armed assaults, which the Taliban staged during the period.
"2,800 police officers and 2,123 civilians were wounded in 8 months," noted Ehsas.
Indicating that Afghan security forces had killed 2,000 insurgents, he added that thousands of others were detained by Afghan police officers.
