DERAA, Syria
The Syrian opposition shot down a regime fighter jet Thursday in Deraa province, southwestern Syria, opposition sources said.
Hosam Neema, a commander of the Southern Front, which represents the Free Syrian Army’s faction in Deraa, told Anadolu Agency that “the jet was shot down by anti-aircraft machine guns near Nahtah town in eastern Deraa province."
Deraa province has witnessed fierce clashes in the past two days between opposition and regime forces.
The opposition has managed to seize control of the barracks of Brigade 52, which is considered to be the regime's second largest force.
Opposition forces have advanced to the east of Syria and clashes are taking place with near the regime's al-Thaala air base in the countryside of al-Suwaydaa province.
