Sudan's Foreign Minister Mohammed Ali Ahmed Karti has said that Sudan would be very pleased if South Sudan, which had a high Muslim population besides the Christian ones, joined the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Sudan would support South Sudan in such a case, added Karti who spoke to AA in Cairo on Wednesday.
A country which applies to be a member of OIC has to have a "state" status and highly populated by Muslims. However, OIC has been flexible in recent years about "having high Muslim population".
80 percent of South Sudan's population is Christian, 18 percent is Muslim and two percent is from other religions.
A total of 56 countries, except Syria, are attending the OIC summit in Cairo. Syria's membership has been suspended since last year.
Syria, Palestine, Mali and Islamophobia are main topics of the summit.
