Starvation hits Palestinian refugee camp in Syria

Thousand are at risk of starvationat Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp near the Syrian capital of Damascus, after months of living under siege.

The concern for the suffering Palestinians inside the war-ravaged camp is growing as forces of the Syrian regime have besieged many opposition-controlled areas in the suburbs of Damascus, and deny any access of food or medical aid.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA), Sami al-Hulv, one of the residents of the camp, urged international community to act. 

"We have forgotten the presence of electricity, medicine or food. Humanity means nothing. World turns to hell," Hulv cried out.

Hulv, describing the situation in the camp as forgotten tragedy, said, "The media reports reflect the tragedy less than the real one."

"Yarmouk remains closed to humanitarian access and remains a place where extreme human suffering in primitively harsh conditions is the norm" said Hulv, "Regime bombed various parts of the camp yesterday, more than 10 people who lost their lives in the attack stayed under the wreckage."

Another camp resident Yousuf Hamis said, "The hunger is inescapable for everyone" in the camp, adding, "We have insufficient food. We have difficulty in standing due to malnutrition. We have not eaten properly for three months, trying to make do with soup made of water and spice."
