MOSCOW
The Russian army, including its air forces, conducted military exercises on Tuesday in the Kaliningrad region, located between Poland and Lithuania.
Russia’s military exercises are conducted at the same time as the U.S. army holds its own military exercises in nearby territories such as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania between June 9 and 20 with the naval-based exercises in the Baltic running between June 6 and 21.
Although the Russian defense ministry did not confirm why it was conducting its military exercises in Kaliningrad, it compared the might of its military to that of NATO.
"We conduct military training simultaneously with the international war games that have started in Europe," the statement said.
Kaliningrad is a Russian enclave between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic Sea and is geographically separate from Russia.
