Russia calls Peru power change internal matter, wishes new leader success
Moscow reaffirms respect for Peru’s sovereignty after Congress impeaches Dina Boluarte

ISTANBUL
Russia on Tuesday described the recent change of leadership in Peru as the country’s internal affair, expressing hope that the new administration will effectively address its pressing challenges.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said Moscow “views the change of power in Peru as an internal matter for the country,” extending its “best wishes to the country’s new leader” Jose Jeri, who assumed the presidency after Congress voted to impeach Dina Boluarte.
The ministry reaffirmed that Peru remains one of Russia’s “long-standing partners in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region,” adding that the two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for more than 160 years.
“Moscow advocates for non-opportunistic, non-influenced bilateral relations based on equality and sovereignty, pragmatism and mutual consideration of national interests, and respect for the fundamental principles of international law,” it said.
The Peruvian Congress impeached President Boluarte on Oct. 10, citing her government’s inability to ensure public safety amid a surge in crime and violence. According to the Peruvian Constitution, congressional leader Jeri will serve as interim president until elections, scheduled for April 12 next year, are held.
