"Parliamentary elections in Egypt at end 2012"

CAIRO (AA) - September 24, 2012 - Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil on Monday said that parliamentary elections in Egypt would take place at the end of 2012 following the preparation of the constitution.

Speaking at a conference hosted by investment companies in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on Monday, Qandil noted that the works of the Committee for the Preparation of Constitution continued independently and no one, including himself, could not intervene in the works of this committee.
"Following the preparation of the constitution, we expect parliamentary elections in Egypt to take place at the end of 2012," Qandil stated.
"Egypt will be in a better position with an elected leader and government," Qandil underlined.
"As the atmosphere for investment gets better, poverty (in Egypt) would be eradicated. The Egyptian government continues to hold talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to meet 25 percent of its financial needs," Qandil stressed.
"The issue of talks with the IMF will come up at the Egyptian parliament following the elections," Qandil said.
The politics of Egypt is based on republicanism, with a semi-presidential system of government. Following the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, and the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak, executive power was assumed by the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which dissolved the parliament, and suspended the constitution.
In 2012, presidential elections resulted in the election of Mohammed Morsi as Egypt's fifth President.
