ISLAMABAD
Pakistan has joined the growing chorus of criticism of Israeli strikes on Gaza, accusing Israel of committing "war crimes."
In a statement released Wednesday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said: "Israel's violent actions against unarmed Palestinians are unacceptable. The international community must take notice of the killing of innocent children and women in air strikes, which are tantamount to war crimes."
Around 50 Palestinians have been killed in two days of strikes from air, land and sea in Israel's response to rockets fired from Gaza.
Sharif said his country supported an independent Palestinian state. Pakistan, the only nuclear Muslim state, does not recognize Israel.
