KARACHI, Pakistan
At least two Pakistani troops were killed and five others were injured in a landmine blast in northwestern Pakistan’s Khyber Agency tribal area Sunday, Pakistani army said.
According to a Pakistani military official, a landmine had struck a security convoy in the remote Tirah valley that sits near Afghanistan border.
The fresh attack contests the Pakistan army's claim of clearing Khyber Agency of militants following a large-scale "Khyber-one" military onslaught launched in October last.
The army claims to have killed over 350 insurgents in the ongoing operation, whereas around 45 soldiers have also lost their lives in clashes and landmine blasts. The figures provided by the army could not be independently verified.
