ANKARA (AA) - July 26, 2012 - Norwegian Ambassador to Turkey Janis Bjorn Kanavin has said, "One person tried to change whole Norwegian nation however he failed."
Radical right-winger Anders Breivik whose attacks in Norway resulted in the death of 77 people, shocked the whole world on July 22, 2011.
Kanavin talked to AA about Breivik's shocking terror attack at its first anniversary and said, "One person tried to change Norway but he failed."
Kanavin stated that they still remember the pains of the attack, despite that they recovered and relieved little by little.
Kanavin said that after the attack, the people of Norway embraced each other and Breivik is going through a "fair judgement process" at the moment.
"I hope there would be a law coming for prevention of such threat to Norway and for stopping the people who think like Breivik," stressed Kanavin.
He underlined that when Breivik committed the attack, he did it all alone and did not receive any help.
"We cannot shut our eyes to the reality. There are people who think like him. Threats are not just being hazards for Norway, also for other countries too. We could not stop Breivik from his act but we know that we are an open nation to other nations. Some people of Norway might say that they are uncomfortable with the "Gypsy Communities" however most of the nation disagrees with this discomfort statements," said Norwegian ambassador.
Kanavin said that there are still seeable marks of the attack and the works in the Utoeya island continue. Kanavin stressed, "But most of the marks are on the hearts of people."
Kanavin underlined that there are similarities between the attack of Breivik and the shooting at a Batman movie screened in U.S. leaving 12 people dead which took place on July 20 and said that what Breivik did was "unequalled".
