KHARTOUM (AA) - Oil protests have been going on in several Sudanese cities since Sunday, when the government lifted subsidies on gasoline, which nearly doubled the price.
According to eye witnesses hundreds of people gathered in Omdurman following the Friday prayer to protest the government’s decision to lift the subsidy in oil prices.
Police forces closed all roads heading to Al-Hijra Mosque, the center of anti-government protests last year, in Wadnabavy region in Omdurman province.
The demonstrations broke out in Khartoum on Sunday and spread across the country and Sudanese police stated that 29 people died in protests since then. However, opposition sources claim that 60 people have been killed so far.
