The Nigerien army announced Sunday that it killed 31 members of Boko Haram in a military operation it carried out during the middle of the week.
“The armed forces launched a military operation against Boko Haram, following an attack carried out by the latter on one of the towns in the country, during the middle of last week, which led to the deaths of 15 people and four other being injured,” military spokesman Colonel Moustapha Ledru said in a statement.
Ledru said that 31 Boko Haram militants were killed in the operation, which also led to the arrest of a high-ranking official in the group.
Boko Haram launched a number of assaults on Niger last June, which led to more than 50 casualties.
