NATO is deeply concerned about Russia's military build up on Ukraine's border and is ready to defend its allies, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Tuesday.
"We are deeply concerned about Russian military concentration. All the NATO allies can be assured that we will provide effective defence. Our all plans are ready to provide effective defense of our allies." told Rasmussen at a joint news conference after talks with Montenegran Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic.
Rasmussen stated that NATO is in contact with Kiev about how it could enhance its support to Ukraine.
NATO previously sent AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System), planes to Poland and Romania in response to Russian military activities in the region.
U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove, NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander in Europe warned on Sunday that Russia’s sizeable armed forces deployed on the borders of Ukraine and Moldova are ready to move “once the order is given”.
