China's official news agency Xinhua has reported that at least three people have been killed in a knife attack at a market in the city of Changsha, Hunan.
Security forces shot dead a suspect the Changsha Evening News said in what appeared to be a dispute between vendors.
However, an official statement has yet to be made regarding the incident and the number of casualties could rise.
China has experienced a number of knife attacks recently including a mass stabbing attack at the beginning of March in a railway station where 29 people were killed and about 140 wounded in the southwest Chinese city of Kunming.
