KUALA LUMPUR
A Malaysian charity organization on Wednesday called on the Malaysian people to support an international aid campaign for Syria which was initiated by Turkey-based Union of the NGOs of the Islamic World.
International leg of the "Bread&Blanket for Syria" campaign was launched on Wednesday with simultaneous press conferences in 16 countries around the world.
In Malaysia, Chairman of Malaysia Muslim Youth Movement Amidi Abdulmennan called on all Malaysians to make contributions to the international aid campaign, saying, "to date, 60,000 Syrians, including 4,026 children and 3,946 women, have been killed in Syria since the incidents began."
"We urge Malaysians to express their sympathy and solidarity towards the plight of their respective Syrian brethren who struggle to continue their daily life," Abdulmennan stated.
"We invite Malaysians to lend their hand by providing necessary support for global humanitarian campaign," Abdulmennan said.
The campaign received the support of charity organizations from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Malaysia, Pakistan, Britain, Macedonia, Kuwait, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya, Yemen, Jordan, Egypt, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Bahrain, Algeria and Belgium.
